Look What We Found at Children 1st @ Acorns Upper Tean
During one of our regular visits to the allotment the children noticed some caterpillars munching on the leaves of one of our plants. They got our butterfly house and put some in and have been busy observing them over the week and have noticed how much bigger they have got.
We’ve been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar story which has shown us the journey of the caterpillar from being a tiny egg on a leaf, then munching through nice green leaves until eventually it transformed into a cocoon.
On Tuesday we noticed that one of our caterpillars had become very still, it had woven some very fine silk. On Wednesday morning, we found that it had transformed into a cocoon!! We have discovered that it will pupate for around two weeks. We cannot wait to see our butterflies emerge!
