Exploring Play and Feelings at Children 1st @ St. Peter and St. Paul
Happy New Year! It’s been lovely to be back with our little ones and we’ve had a busy start to the new year.
The babies have been using their imagination through sensory play this week. By using a variety of stimuli, the children had fun placing objects into tin containers to make lots of different sounds. They also used their skills to build towers and then had great fun knocking them down!
Elsewhere in nursery, as part of our efforts to support the mental health of children we are continuing to provide opportunities for them to develop their emotional awareness. The Colour Monster, a character developed in a series of books by Anna Llenas is a key resource we are using to help the children develop their awareness of different feelings. Each monster represents a different feeling through an exciting story and is helping the children develop the language to talk about how they feel.
We have created a display in reception for you all to also become familiar with the story and explore these emotions with your children. Also, we have created some resources for you to take home to support you. So please help yourself to these, and then bring them back into nursery to share with us should you wish to.
