World Religion Day at Children 1st @ Shepshed
The aim of World Religion Day, held in January each year, is to promote inter-faith understanding and harmony. Through a variety of events held around the globe, followers of every religion are encouraged to acknowledge the similarities that different faiths have.
Our celebration of this special day focused on weddings. Miss Mala and Miss Jayne kindly brought in their wedding dresses to show the children. The children really enjoyed trying them on and talking about the similarities and differences between them. We found out that guests at weddings like to wear their best clothes for the event and looked at the beautiful henna decorations at some weddings.
We went on to talk about the places where wedding ceremonies are held and some of the customs that accompany traditional weddings. We looked at pictures of temples and churches and focused on the beautiful stained-glass windows of many churches. This led us to make stained-glass window biscuits which we all enjoyed eating. After all, no wedding celebration is complete without some tasty food!
