World Book Day at Children 1st @ Birstall, Leicester and Syston
Wow! What a brilliant time we’ve had at our nurseries as children and staff dressed-up to join in with the world’s biggest celebration of reading and stories.
At Syston there was a great turn out as children arrived dressed as their favourite book character. One child delighted everyone by dressing as a solar system because he had really enjoyed the recent ‘Space’ topic. His costume made us reflect on the wonder of information books and all we can learn from them. During the day a wealth of wonderful stories were shared and the children from early years, inspired by the Michael Rosen classic story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, ventured into the garden to enjoy their own special bear hunt.
The children and staff at Leicester all got involved with a wonderful array of activities. The children loved reading the books they bought to nursery to show their characters. They also enjoyed acting out their stories and singing the songs to match!
So many different characters were featured in the costumes worn by the children at Birstall. The range of stories was wide with characters from traditional and classic stories such as Peter Rabbit, Elmer, Red Riding Hood and the Snowman, to heroes such as Batman and Spiderman. With Little Bo Peep reminding everyone about the fun of nursery rhymes and some beautiful princesses, we were delighted to see such inspirational costumes which gave us so much to talk about during the day.
Thank-you to all parents and carers for providing such great costumes and to all the staff who dressed-up for the day.
We invite you to see how many book characters you can spot on our slideshow showing photos from Birstall, Leicester and Syston.
