Where is that Bear? at Children 1st @ Clowne
The fabulous book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen was the inspiration behind a family bear hunt which took place recently at Clowne.
Having shared the story, the children decided it would be a good idea to invite a ‘special person’ from their family to come along with us on our own pretend bear hunt. Despite some unkind weather, not at all like that in the story, our bear hunt adventure was a huge success.
With wellies on feet and wrapped up in coats, the children and their special visitors braved the elements to find the missing bear. With torches to illuminate the search, especially in the dark cave and muddy puddles to wade through, the hunt was very thorough. Eventually, after running all the way back, the bear was found waiting for our enthusiastic search party and the kind bear had a special treat for us all.
The bear hunt enabled the children to have the ‘real life’ experience of the events depicted in the story and re-telling it with their family added to their understanding of the events and the language associated with the book. As well as exploring the different environments such as the long wavy grass and the thick oozy mud, re-enacting the story helped to fire their imaginations.
Thanks to everyone who came to join us on the bear hunt. From the feedback it seems that our visitors loved the adventure as much as the children! They appreciated having the opportunity to get involved and experiencing how the story came alive as a result of all the effort the staff put in to creating the experience.
So, a good day was had by all and it seems as if everyone is looking forward to further adventures at Clowne!
