Remembrance Day Activities at Children 1st Nurseries

Several of our nurseries marked Remembrance Day by using it as an opportunity to help the children begin to understand the significance of the poppy. An array of activities took place throughout the week, with the colour red being very much in evidence!

Lovely poppies were created using play dough, paint and even fallen red leaves. Fingers, hands and brushes were used to apply the red paint to the poppies, whilst some children used apples to print onto their poppies. There was plenty of sticking going on whilst the beautiful poppies were made.

Poppies were even used for some mathematical activities as the children found them great for sorting, counting and arranging in order of size.

Poppies of all shapes and sizes made eye-catching displays inside and outside our nurseries.

Baking was a very popular activity, with everyone helping  with the weighing and the mixing. Topped with icing, red of course, and raisins or chocolate buttons, these made perfect treats to take home or to eat in nursery. Rice cakes were the perfect base for transforming into delicious poppies with some skilful decoration.

We hope you enjoy looking through a selection of photographs showing our Remembrance Day activities.
