Recycling Know How at Children 1st @ Plumtree
Keen to develop their understanding of the need to reduce, recycle and reuse waste materials, the children have been taking a close look at the materials used in all kinds of packaging.
Using a very handy leaflet which Dave at Rushcliffe Recycling Centre gave us, we’ve been sorting through boxes and bottles of all shapes and sizes to find out if they could be recycled and if so, how to go about recycling them. We’ve also discussed how recycling is done at home and what the various coloured bins are used for. The children were really excited and very enthusiastic to share their knowledge about recycling.
The range of packaging gave us the opportunity to explore many different materials, to talk about colours, lettering and textures. We also found that some of the packaging was great for junk modelling. The children loved reusing the packaging to make new things and to fire their imaginations.
