Raindrop Adventures at Children 1st @ Acorns Upper Tean - Children 1st Day Nurseries

Raindrop Adventures at Children 1st @ Acorns Upper Tean

It was a wonderful wet morning for waterproofs and wellies here recently at Acorns and the children certainly made the most of the opportunity to enjoy their outdoor adventures.

The children enjoyed filling and pouring water from the containers and whisking it up with mud to make hot chocolate!! So, on such a wet day what could be better than drinking the real thing in the wigwam.

After our hot chocolate we carried on playing in the mud kitchen. The more we dug, the more worms we found. We compared the sizes of the worms and found that we had far more smaller worms than we did big ones.

Before we knew it, it was lunch time. We popped back up to the barn to wash our hands then we went back to sit in the wigwam to eat our lunch of sausage casserole.

We read about the life cycle of a raindrop, and laughed when the roots slurped up the rain drop. Jackson said, “It sounds like a straw.” This led to a discussion about straws and how plastic straws take a long time to decompose. Miss Claire said, “I have metal straws at home, I wash them and reuse them.” The children wondered what decompose meant, so we talked about what happens when we put leaves, vegetable peelings, fruit and grass cuttings into the compost heap – now we know! It was now time to go up to the barn to dry out. What a magical rainy day!
