National Numeracy Day at Children 1st @ Syston
Here at Syston we recently celebrated National Numeracy Day.
In our garden the Early Years’ children participated in a number scavenger hunt where they successfully found numbers 1-10! Well done everyone! They then counted the numbers on our giant number line.
They also looked out for shapes that are hidden in the environment. The children identified that the hula hoops are circles, the windows at nursery are squares and rectangles and the cones are like triangles!
Back inside the classroom some of the children were using the colourful people counters and cards to recognise patterns and then carry the pattern or sequence on. They then compared quantities using language such as more than, less than and equal to.
Finally, they enjoyed using the balance scales to play around with weights, trying to even out the scales, and using mathematical language related to the activity such as heavier, lighter, measure and capacity.
