Look for a Book at Children 1st @ Newark
Imagine the excitement of the Peter Rabbits when they found a book hidden in the nursery garden! Alongside the book was a message which read,
“You can take the book home and read it and then pop it back in the waterproof bag and re-hide it for someone else!”
Wow! The children wanted to hear the story, called ‘1,2,3, Splosh’ straight away and afterwards thought it was so good they decided to keep it! However, they replaced the book with one of their favourites, ‘Circus Train’ by Jennifer Cole, which they popped in the bag to hide for another child to find and enjoy.
This ingenious initiative designed to get children ‘hooked on books’ was set up earlier this month, with various children’s books being placed in parks around the county. It is part of the national ‘Look 4 a Book UK’ campaign. The Lincolnshire scheme was set up by Starglaze Home Improvements, and there are now nearly 1,000 different books dotted around the county in various parks ready for children to find.
Once found, the books are read by the children before being hidden elsewhere for someone else to find, a great way to spread a love of books. Finding our book certainly sparked plenty of lively discussion, as did choosing a choosing a new book to go in the bag.
Please let us know if you find any books whilst you are out and about.
