International Literacy Day at Children 1st @ Syston

To celebrate the recent International Literacy Day, Miss Alice took the Early Years children on a magical bear hunt around the garden.

‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,’ the classic children’s story by Michal Rosen, is our story of the month for September here at Syston.

The children listened carefully to Miss Alice reading the story, and afterwards they were ready for adventures, stepping through the swishy swashy grass, the splashy sploshy river, the squelching squerching mud, the stumble trip forest, and the swirling whirling snowstorm.

After braving the snowstorm, they tiptoed into the cave and found…A BEAR! but it was okay! It was only Mr Harvey Bear!

Since 1967 on International Literacy Day, organised by UNESCO, celebrations have taken place annually around the world to remind everyone of the importance of literacy as a matter of dignity and human rights, and to advance the literacy agenda towards a more literate and sustainable society. The day reminds us of how fortunate we are to be surrounded by books of all kinds which stimulate our imaginations and provide us with knowledge.
