Hands-on Learning at Children 1st @ Main Street
Whether we’re exploring the tomato plants or ‘travelling by sea,’ the children at our nurseries thrive on having as much first-hand experience as possible.
The Benjamin Bunnies at Main Street have enjoyed doing lots of different activities surrounding this theme. Making the most of the lovely sunshine, they have been engrossed in water activities such as moving water between levels, pouring it into containers of various sizes and seeing what would float. They also loved playing with sea creatures. Their blue handprint paintings made us all think of the sea!
The children have been developing a wide range of skills whilst taking part in these activities. Their concentration has been fantastic. They’ve also been sharing and cooperating with their friends so beautifully.
The Peter Rabbits have been fascinated with the growth of our tomato plants. They’ve been looking at the tomatoes which are slowly growing. Miss Niamh explained how the tomatoes will turn from green to red when they are ready to eat!
The children then decided that they wanted to water them and take care of them so that they could eventually eat them. They showed so much care and consideration for the plants and were very gentle as they watered them.
One of the green tomatoes had fallen off so Miss Niamh cut it up at circle time and the children were very intrigued to see what it looked like in the middle. They even helped to count the tiny seeds and used some good vocabulary to describe what they could see.
With all this loving TLC from the Peter Rabbits, we’re looking forward to a bumper tomato harvest.
