Football Fun Day at Children 1st @ Clowne
This was a football fun day with a difference. At its heart was a mission to raise as much money as possible to support Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The funds raised on the day would go towards providing care and equipment for the poorly children who receive treatment at the hospital.
The Sheffield Children’s Hospital is famous for the integrated healthcare it provides for children and young people but in our community the significance of their work became very real when a child we’d known since he was 11 months old and who stills joins us for after school club was diagnosed with a serious illness. Now attending school, Oliver, began a course of treatment at Sheffield and we’re pleased to hear he’s responding really well. Although treatment will continue for some time, he’s back at school and was able to join us to present medals to the footballing dads.
For the football day the nursery children were invited to wear their football kits or sporty gear and take part in football themed activities throughout the day. A donation box in the reception area invited parents to make a contribution to our fund-raising efforts.
In the afternoon the nursery hosted a charity football match with teams comprising enthusiastic dads keen to show off their football skills and have some fun. We had 15 marvellous dads turn up on the day and amaze us all with their dazzling footwork!
The day’s activities raised £2128, boosted by Children 1st head office as part of their 30th birthday pledge to support 30 good causes in their anniversary year. We’re delighted that Oliver could join us for the cheque presentation.
Thank-you to all our footballing dads and to everyone for their generous donations. We’ll finish by sharing a comment from Oliver’s parents and wishing Oliver well on his journey.
“Oliver has been in and out of hospital for varying lengths of time throughout the year and has been visited at home and school regularly by outreach nurses. The care he has received has been second to none and we will be eternally grateful to the incredible staff there. We would like to say a big thanks to the incredible support of our friends, family, teachers and of course our lovely Children 1st family at Clowne. Things get a little easier every day!”
