February Happenings at Children 1st @ Derby Road - Children 1st Day Nurseries

February Happenings at Children 1st @ Derby Road

As we say farewell to February, we’ve been looking back at what an action-packed month it has been. Here’s a selection of the highlights:

Bobtails have become very interested in nursery rhymes and particularly loved singing Old Mc Donald. They delighted in using the toy animals as props for the song. Bobtails went on to use musical instruments to accompany the nursery rhyme. So clever!

The Jemima Puddleducks discovered the wonder of looking at the world through chiffon scarves as they played in the garden. Who doesn’t love a game of ‘Peekaboo’!

Early Years have been very hands on making cheese straws. They first washed their hands and put on aprons, taking Harvey Bear with them. Taking turns, they added the ingredients to the mixing bowls, talking about each one and how much was needed. Miss Olivia showed everyone how to roll out the dough and cut it into shapes, and then the children created their own straws. Miss Anna kindly took the straws for baking, ready for our super cooks to take home. Delicious!

Our yoga sessions have been enjoyed by the Benjamin Bunnies and the older children. Stretching, balancing and relaxing, all the children really enjoy these sessions. Our lovely garden makes a great area for the older ones to practice their moves and work on their deep breathing.

In Early Years the search has been on to find the escaped Evil Peas in response to a letter from Supertato asking for their help in rounding them up. Working as a team the children used their magnifying glasses to carry out a thorough search and managed to find all the cheeky peas. Great work Early Years!

With all this hard work it’s no wonder we get hungry! The children enjoyed working with Miss Amy to make some delicious vegetable soup for tea. Miss Sorin was on hand to help with some of the chopping and soon the vegetables were in the pot ready to be cooked. What a fantastic way to learn about vegetables and to develop our skills!

Meanwhile, it’s been a month of celebration for the staff. Congratulations to Miss Anna on qualifying as an Early Years Educator and thanks to all our apprentices who showcased their talents during National Apprenticeship Week. Miss Sonia was chosen as employee of the month by her colleagues who appreciate her smiling, helpful and kind nature. The Early Years team were beaming as they received the ‘Room of the Month’ award in recognition of achievements in providing wonderful learning opportunities and delivering the best day every day for the children. Finally, everyone at Derby Road is pleased to welcome Mr Tristan to Early Years. It’s great to have him with us as we leap into Spring next month.
