Chinese New Year Celebrations at Children 1st Day Nurseries

It’s the Year of the Rabbit and our children had a fun time exploring the start of the Chinese New Year with a range of colourful activities.Tuff spots were transformed into seas of red with coloured rice, pom poms and pipe cleaners inviting the children to try their hand at using chop sticks to pick up objects or to move them around,

The chop sticks were again in use as the children sampled Chinese food for lunch or for snack. Noodles, rice, spring rolls, prawn crackers, sweet and sour dishes presented such a tempting array of food! One nursery even had its own Chinese restaurant! Thanks to all our cooks who helped out with this and well done to the children for tucking into their special food.

There were craft activities galore with Rabbit hats to be made, rabbit silhouettes to paint, dangling decorations to create and hang and play dough in red and gold to shape and mould. Traditional lanterns were festooned across our nurseries and friends worked together to make some awesome dragons. Music followed as the dragons danced their way through nurseries bringing smiles to everyone’s faces.

Such a wonderful celebration which helped the children to find out about the many ways in which the Chinese New Year is marked. We hope you enjoy looking through our gallery.
