An Inspirational Story at Children 1st @ Derby Road
Today some of the Early Years children went to meet MBE and paralympic swimming gold medallist Claire Cashmore. Claire has written a children’s story called “Splash” which she shared with the children at a story session held at Trent College.
Claire was born without a left forearm but she never let being different stand in the way of her big dreams. Splash is based on Claire’s real-life experience. This gold medal winning swimmer really was scared of water … until one day, everything changed!
The children had so many questions to ask Claire about her disability and her sporting success. They were keen to look at some of her medals which include 4 bronze, 3 silver and 1 gold. They really enjoyed her story and were able to recognise that Claire was actually the character in the book.
Claire has faced significant challenges from a very early age and has successfully found ways to overcome them in fulfilling her paralympic dream. What an inspiration to us all!
