Celebrating World Wildlife Day at Children 1st @ Main Street
Nothing beats first hand learning experiences and so to mark World Wildlife Day the early years at Main Street set off on a visit to Attenborough Nature Centre which is an award-winning visitor and education facility surrounded by the tranquil waters of the beautiful Attenborough Nature Reserve, owned and managed by Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust.
We began our visit by collecting resources to make our own birds’ nests. To do this we explored the secret garden, collecting sticks, leaves, moss and feathers. Once we’d prepared the nest, we made eggs using sand, glue and feathers.
Afterwards we went to feed the ducks and geese using special bird food. We talked about the different names of the birds and used a photo guide to help us identify them. We were able to get really close to the birds and have a good look at them. We were joined by some beautiful but very hungry swans.
We then made a giant floor collage of a goose using more of the resources we had collected. We were very pleased with our work! This was a great opportunity for the children to engage in a transient art experience. Please share our special day out by having a look through the photographs.
